ADDICTION
I was hooked at age five. As a child I had to make collages for school assignments. My parents would let me pick out the pictures I wanted to use from a huge stack of old magazines. I would spend evenings sitting alone in the middle of the floor flipping through the shiny pages. While I was appreciating all of the fantastic photos, some part of me was quickly growing fond of the slight stickiness of the glossy pages; of the weird, acrid smell of the ink. My parents must have been grateful for how quiet I was during these times.

DIETIES, PARADISES
To me these images of the "real world" were as fascinating and alien as the cartoon programming I would watch in the day. Ladies wearing 4 and 5 colors on their faces — makeup like the tail of a peacock. Men in angular suits with shiny time pieces and belts, standing in angular poses like so many pharaohs. Elegant, elongated fingers making beautiful, lazy gestures. Symbols, logos, icons. Watches, watches, watches.

I didn't see these things in the world outside my apartment. They were real and unreal simultaneously and that fascinated me. People and symbols were merged in those photo shoots — "deities" and "paradises" were the result. And I was hooked, to the power of the symbol, at age five.

STILL HOOKED
My habit has become more refined since those days but the addiction remains. Semiotics, typographical journals, Koch's book of signs, Man and his Symbols by Carl Jung, ambigrams, monograms, and mudras; if anything my need is now stronger.

So now I am a graphic designer and I can't think of many careers that I would love more than this one. Working with pictures, symbols and words — manipulating meaning, is my favorite thing to do and I do it well.

I have a background in illustration, typography and design. I enjoy taking long walks in the morning and cooking delicious meals at night. I have a not-so-secret love of comic books. What more is there to know?

Language is a cracked kettle on which we beat out tunes for bears to dance to, while all the time we long to move the stars to pity.
-Gustave Flaubert

We must combine the toughness of the serpent with the softness of the dove, a tough mind and a tender heart.
-Martin Luther King Jr.

As for you, be as clever as snakes and as innocent as doves.
